The holidays are a great time to gift friends, family and yourself with books to read. And there certainly are a lot of them being published! You can find books to suit every age and taste whether fiction or nonfiction. There’s nothing better than getting comfortable and cozy on a cold day and reading a new book. Let’s share recommendations, whether it be your own work or that of others.
I just finished reading Mary Balogh’s REMEMBER ME, a touching Regency novel. I am about to start PHANTOMS & FELONIES by Lucy Ness. I previously read and enjoyed her first novel in this new mystery series, HAUNTED HOMICIDE.
I both read and write historical romance as well as mysteries. My most recent novel, THE LOST LADY, will be published in January and is so far available for pre-order in print and ebook from:
https://luminositypublishing.com/book/the-lost-lady/
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DDH1K5F3/
This Regency novel combines romance with a murder mystery.
Okay, now it’s your turn. Please share books or publications you believe will make for good holiday reading.
Feel free to talk about work you’ve recently had
published if you’re an author. Readers, please mention books you have on your
wish list and/or recently read, enjoyed, and can recommend. Happy holidays!
Great post. Sharing!

ReplyDeleteCatherine,
DeleteYou should mention your latest mystery.
Thanks for this! I’m biased, but for $5, folks could buy the paperback anthology “Witcraft 24”, with 48 comedic pieces. This includes “The Optimal Solution” by yours truly! It’s available at Amazon (yay!) but not B&N (boo!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your recommendation. Wishing you many sales.
DeleteCheck www.whitecitypress.com for great suggestions - including Yeet Me in St Louis (anthology by St Louis writers, a mention of a crime and the Gateway Arch), Janie's Got a Gun (Aerosmith songs and crime), Santa Rage (very dark stories), Dark Hearts and Tattletales (a collection of 16 short stories, horror but the creepy kind not the bloody terror kind). There's also (I Just) Died in Your Arms (one hit wonders songs and crime - sensing a theme here?), First Comes Love, Then Comes Murder - the bad side of heartbreak, The Perp Wore Pumpkin (charity anthology - all the net proceeds go to a food bank), and if you're in the mood for something...racy, Sex & Violins - musical instruments commonly found in an orchestra, a crime, and a racy scene (that means explicit) or more. Something for everyone!
ReplyDeleteSandy,
DeleteThanks for these recommendations.
I've been reading a lot of great books by fellow mystery authors: Gay Yellen, Ilene Schneider, Laurie Buchanan, Sharon P. Lynn, Tracey P. Phillips, Peg Brantley, Debra H. Goldstein, Regina Fite, Matt Cost, BJ Magnani, Phyllis H. Moore, Kathleen Kaska, historical fiction by Linda Stewart Henley, and yours. I'm also promoting the books in the Detective Parrott mystery series, which I write, and which are receiving multiple awards in this season. More about these at saralynrichard.com.
ReplyDeleteSaralyn,
DeleteCongrats on the awards! Well-deserved.
I'll be a little selfish to start, lol. My first Declan Shaw detective story came out this year from Shotgun Honey: "Love You Till Tuesday", readers say that once they start, they can't stop. It's the experience I had with Rob Hart's "Assassins Anonymous", a cool idea really well executed. Then, if you want to recommend a digital publication, you can't go wrong with giving Black Cat Weekly, it's a measly $20 for 52 weeks of reading, and each mag is 400 pages.... woof! The deal of the century!
ReplyDeleteM.E.,
DeleteThanks for sharing this info with us!
I'm reading mostly nonfiction right now because I'm working on the sixth Anita Ray mystery, which I've been meandering through for months. Time to finish it and see what I have. Thanks to the other commenters for some good book suggestions.

DeleteSusan,
DeleteI've enjoyed reading each novel in your Anita Ray mystery series. Glad to learn you are continuing it.
I'd like to recommend my novel The Ticket. It's a thriller about a frantic and perilous search for a missing jackpot lottery ticket. The lives of a corrupt gambler, a retired detective, and a woman in hiding intersect as the ticket is about to expire. Please check out my website at fredshackelford.com!
ReplyDeleteFred,
DeleteWishing you much success with your novel.
Thanks for the opportunity, Jacqueline. I'd like to recommend my inspirational children's picture book, Sara and the Lonely Horse. A young girl named Sara is on her way to another cancer treatment. She feels alone because of her disease and sympathizes with a horse she sees standing alone in a cold rain. Their eyes meet. The relationship she forms with this horse helps her recover from her disease. A beautiful story and a well-illustrated book. Kids love it.
